Peace Dollar Mint Marks
The Peace Dollar was minted in Philadelphia (no mint mark), Denver (D) and San Francisco (S). Mint Marks on a coin tell you where the coin was made. Some designers also hid their initials inside the design but this is not a mint mark. Mint marks appear directly on the field and aren't part of any other device.
Many collectors collect coins by date and mint mark and the presence of a mint mark can change the value of a coin. In the beginning when the only mint was in Philadelphia coins did not have a mint mark applied. As other mints were added the lack of a mint mark meant the coin was minted in Philadelphia.
The Peace Dollar mint mark for those minted in Denver or San Francisco is on the reverse below ONE.
Lack of a mint mark on a Peace Dollar indicates it was minted in Philadelphia.
