eBay Regulates Certified Coins
In an effort to stem the sales of misrepresented and fraudulent coins at auction eBay has launched a new policy in its Coins Category that requires any coins listed as certified must be certified by one of four grading companies.
The new policy requires that any listing of a certified coin must be certified by one of the following companies: Numismatic Guaranty Corp/Numismatic Conservation Services (NGC/NCS), Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), Independent Coin Grading (ICG), or ANACS.
Coins graded by other grading companies will still be permitted listings but must follow certain conditions. Coins not certified by the authorized grading services above are now considered to be raw/uncertified coins. The requirements for listing certified coins is available at “Selling Coins and Currency” policy page.
This is a tremendous step forward that protects both buyers and sellers of coins on eBay and is to be applauded by the coin buying and collecting community.
